Cuffley Operatic Society have been performing high quality live theatre to audiences from in and around Cuffley for 40 years; we pride ourselves on the professional standards that our shows achieve.
Amateur theatre provides an exhilarating route from the daily grind into the fantastic escape of the musical world!
We aim to perform two musical productions each year, and in those 40 years, we have successfully staged such classics as Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, The Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, Chess, and the more unusual, Little Me, City of Angels, Scrooge the Musical, and our current production of The Cuffley VC. Next May we will be performing ‘Anything Goes’.
As well as the above productions, we have staged concerts based on well known music from the West End, Films, Big Band songs and the occasional Christmas Concert. We have also done a Pantomime in the guise of Dick Whittington.
We usually perform at Cuffley Hall, around the months of May and November, and our productions are uniquely innovative and fun.
We are a ‘family friendly’ style company, enthusiastic and committed, and everyone gets involved in the production of the show, both backstage and technically. Everyone has a contribution to make, either on off stage - be it Singing, Dancing, Acting, as well as the practical skills and talents of set and prop or costume design. All talents we try to nurture./
We always welcome new members and find that they quickly become part of the group. To become a member and to perform in shows you will need to audition.
Social activities are a crucial way of raising the funds that subsidise our costly productions, but we also try to arrange other events that are just fun. These include the post-rehearsal pub visits (The Wine Club), Quizzes, BBQ’s, a Summer Lunch, Seasonal Meals - there is usually something for everyone, and family and friends are always welcome.
Rehearsals and Performances
Chorus members are usually required for one rehearsal per week in the early stages of a production (either on a Tuesday or a Thursday) increasing to both nights and occasional Sunday afternoons nearer the time of the performances. Rehearsals are held locally at Goffs Oak Methodist Hall. Performances run from Wednesday to Saturday, with a Saturday Matinee. However, if involved, your diary needs to be blocked from the Saturday prior to the Show, to the Sunday after the Show, to allow for Set Up and Clear Out.
How much will it cost ?
Full annual Membership is £20. Payment may be made by Standing order if necessary (additional details are available on request).
There is also a Show Fee, which could be anything up to £50, depending on the cost of the Show, payable before Show week.
What do I do next
Why not come along to one of our rehearsals, find out more and get to know us. They always start at 7.45pm at Goffs Oak Methodist Hall.
